A Ghost Story — Trailer

After wrapping last year's big-budget Disney fantasy movie "Pete's Dragon," writer-director David Lowery almost immediately launched into the production of "A Ghost Story." Developed as a secret passion project, the movie is a dream-like supernatural drama about the tragic life of a married couple as seen through the eyes of a ghost ... like, a sheet with two eye holes type of ghost.

And if the newly released trailer is to be believed, it appears to be more meditative than traditionally gory -- more Malick-like than Carpenter-fright -- and more barebones than overly extravagant.

The unconventional ghost film, which stars recent Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck and Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara, who both starred in Lowery's 2013 indie outlaw drama "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," premiered to strong reviews this past January at the Sundance Film Festival.

Acquired by A24 films, "A Ghost Story" is slated to open in theaters this summer, July 7th.

synopsis:
With A Ghost Story, acclaimed director David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Pete's Dragon) returns with a singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection. Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence. An unforgettable meditation on love and grief, A Ghost Story emerges ecstatic and surreal -- a wholly-unique experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
