"Death is easy." It's waiting for death that really takes a toll on a person's soul. Or, so is the case in the new full-length trailer for the forthcoming third and final season of HBO's acclaimed series "The Leftovers," which is based on author Tom Perrotta's best-seller of the same name.

The dark mystery series, in which Perrotta serves as an executive producer alongside former "Lost" showrunner Damon Lindelof, is set in a bleak, dreary world where people are struggling in the aftermath of a Rapture-like event, in which two percent of the Earth's population has mysteriously vanished in thin air.

The drama revolves around Justin Theroux's character, Kevin Garvey, a former sheriff haunted by doomsday visions who now finds himself and his family in Australia where everyone is living with a constant fear that the world is about to end -- which might not be far from the truth.

"The Leftovers: Season 3," which also stars Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Regina King, Scott Glenn, Margaret Qualley and more, will end its run, beginning Sunday, April 16th on HBO.

synopsis:
When 2 percent of the world's population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to understand just what they're supposed to do about it. THE LEFTOVERS is the story of the people who didn't make the cut. Based on the bestselling novel by Tom Perrotta.
