English comedian Julian Barratt, from the British comedy troupe"The Mighty Boosh," plays a washed-up '80s TV actor who gets a second chance at "saving some lives" in the new international trailer for the upcoming British cop spoof "Mindhorn."

Barratt, who also co-wrote the film with fellow 'Mighty Boosh' member Simon Farnaby, stars as Richard Thorncroft, a once-famous actor known for playing TV's greatest detective on the cult 80s cop series 'Mindhorn.' When an escaped insane serial killer, who is confusing TV fiction with reality, threatens to kill more people unless he speaks to detective Mindhorn, Thorncroft is immediately called in to help out the real police and is given a chance to resurrect the character that made him a superstar.

Directed by British theater comedian Sean Foley, "Mindhorn" also stars Andrea Riseborough (Birdman), Essie Davis (The Babadook), Russell Tovey (The History Boys), and David Schofield (Da Vinci's Demons) with special appearances by Kenneth Branagh, Simon Callow, and Steve Coogan.

The British comedy will open in the U.K. on May 5th.

synopsis:
Washed-up Richard Thorncroft (Julian Barratt) peaked with hit 1980s detective show Mindhorn, playing the titular Isle of Man sleuth with a robotic eye that allowed him to literally "see the truth." Decades later, when a deranged Manx criminal demands Mindhorn as his nemesis, Thorncroft returns to the scene of his greatest triumphs for one last chance to reignite his glory days, professional credibility and even romance with former co-star/paramour Patricia Deville (Essie Davis).
