Sorry, Papa Smurf. But it seems there's a new Smurf leader in town: And her name is Julia Roberts!

Well, to be precise, Julia Roberts is the voice of a brand-new female Smurf character in the all-new fully animated 'Smurfs' movie, called "Smurfs: The Lost Village," for which a new trailer has just been released online.

The Oscar-winner, in her first voice work for a family film since 2006's "Charlotte's Web," plays Smurfwillow, the fearless leader of an all-female clan of Smurfs who have been secretly living in a lost village (hence the title).

Wanting to see if the fabled lost Smurf village is real or not, Smurfette (voiced by pop singer Demi Lovato) starts the movie by persuading her fellow Smurf mates -- Clumsy (Jack McBrayer), Brainy (Danny Pudi), and Hefty (Joe Manganiello) -- to disobey the orders of Papa Smurf (Mandy Patinkin) as they go on a dangerous journey into the "forbidden forest."

Shocked to discover that the lost village is, indeed, real and is comprised of only girl Smurfs, Smurfette immediately warns Smurfwillow about the potential dangers of the evil, Smurf-eating Gargamel (Rainn Wilson). Not one to be easily unnerved, Smurfwillow quickly orders her bow-and-arrow-wielding girls to go into full "protection mode." And these girl smurfs "mean business!"

Kelly Asbury, the director of "Gnomeo & Juliet" and co-director of "Shrek 2," helms "Smurfs: The Lost Village," which is coming to theaters on April 7th.

synopsis:
