After a four-year break from filmmaking, during which he abruptly left the production of "Ant-Man" due to creative differences with Marvel, British filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim) is making his triumphant return this summer with "Baby Driver," a music-infused action movie that centers on an eardrum-damaged getaway driver (played by Ansel Elgort).
As the film made its world premiere earlier today at the SXSW Film Festival, the debut trailer has just been released online. And it shows Elgort as "Baby," a young gifted wheelman suffering from tinnitus (a constant ringing or buzzing in the ears), who is forced to participate in a dangerous bank heist for a powerful crime boss (played by Kevin Spacey). To combat his hearing ailment, Baby must listen to music through earbuds as it helps drown out the constant throbbing buzz in his head. It also provides writer-director Wright with a terrific reason to incorporate a rockin' soundtrack.
Set to hit theaters on August 11th, "Baby Driver" also stars Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza Gonzalez, Sky Ferreira, Paul Williams, and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.
A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.
