Veteran filmmaker and documentarian Werner Herzog (Fitzcarraldo, Grizzly Man) tackles current ecological and environmental issues with his latest thriller "Salt and Fire," in which recent Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals) stars as a radical businessman who abducts an environmental researcher (played by German actress Veronica Ferres) who has just traveled to South America to investigate a possible ecological threat in the Uyuni Salt Flats of Bolivia.

The eco-drama, which co-stars Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal (from the Amazon series "Mozart in the Jungle"), received mixed reviews when it played at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

Acquired by XLrator Media, "Salt and Fire" will be made available on VOD and iTunes on April 4th and will also hit select theaters on April 7th. Watch the U.S. trailer, above.
