If you have an intense fondness for '80s horror movies and the films of John Carpenter, then you probably do not want to avoid "The Void." As the film will likely wrap you up inside a scratchy blanket of nostalgia while it kicks you down into a dark gaping pit of nightmarish terror.

From the demented minds of Canadian genre filmmakers Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski, who previously created a segment for the horror anthology "ABCs of Death 2," "The Void" is a mind-bending horror thriller about a small-town police officer who has barricaded himself inside a local hospital after realizing he and the medical staff are being preyed upon by a strange group of hooded satanists. Worse yet, the hospital's basement might possibly be the location of the Hellmouth; as in the portal entrance to Hell. Yikes!

As two of the founding members of the Canadian filmmaking collective known as "Astron-6," Gillespie and Kostanski have also worked together on the low-budget cult films "Manborg" (which Gillespie directed) and "Father's Day" (which Gillespie and Kostanski co-directed with three other "Astron-6" members).

Gillespie and Kostanski also worked on a number of big Hollywood movies as an assistant art director and special makeup effects artist, respectively. Their film credits include "Suicide Squad," "Pacific Rim," and the upcoming "It" movie.

Following a successful world premiere at last year's Fantastic Fest, "The Void," which stars Aaron Poole, Kathleen Munroe, Kenneth Welsh, and Ellen Wong, will be getting a stateside release next month, hitting U.S. theaters and VOD on April 7th.
