When the galaxy is in danger and need of protection, there's only one team of space guardians brave enough, strong enough, and foolish enough that the universe can always rely on for help. Just don't expect them to always know what they're doing or how to do it effectively.

Check out a brand-new official trailer for the hotly anticipated Marvel sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which just debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Chris Pratt (aka Peter Quill aka Star-Lord) was on hand to give recent Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel and his talk-show audience an exclusive peek at some exciting, new footage from the James Gunn-directed comic book movie, which sees the Guardians back in action.

The film, also starring Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax and featuring Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as the voices of Rocket and Baby Groot, will have the Guardian "family" partnering up with a couple of old foes: Gamora's evil assassin sister Nebula (Karen Gillan) and space pirate Yondu (Michael Rooker). The team will also be adding a new member to the group, an alien character who goes by the name Mantis (played by Pom Klementieff ).

The story, which is also written by Gunn, will finally unravel the mystery of Quill's long-lost father. He's an ancient cosmic being called "Ego," sometimes refer to as "Ego, the Living Planet." A nicely bearded Kurt Russell is playing Ego in his humanoid form as teased in the final moments of the new trailer.

Co-starring Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Sean Gunn with appearances by Glenn Close and Sylvester Stallone, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be arriving in theaters on May 5th.

synopsis:
Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape 2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
