A group of male students at an all-black university are subjected to various forms of humiliation and abuse as they try to endure the vicious pledging rituals of their chosen fraternity in the newly-released trailer for the Netflix film "Burning Sands."

Gerard McMurray, an associate producer on Ryan Coogler's 2013 Sundance-winner "Fruitvale Station," makes his feature directorial debut with "Burning Sands," a college-set drama that takes viewers inside the hidden world of fraternity hazing as told from the perspective of a young frat pledge (played by TV's "American Crime" actor Trevor Jackson), who comes to question the moral value of these long-held college practices.

Co-starring Mitchell Edwards, Octavius J. Johnson, Tosin Cole, DeRon Horton, and Malik Bazille with special appearances by Emmy-winning actress Alfre Woodard (who recently co-starred in Netflix's "Luke Cage") and Emmy-nominated actor Steve Harris (TV's The Practice), "Burning Sands" premiered to mostly positive reviews at Sundance this year. The Netflix film will start streaming Friday, March 10th.

synopsis:
Burning Sands takes you on a raw, voyeuristic journey of fraternity pledging through the eyes of one favored pledgee, who is torn between honoring a code of silence or standing up against the intensifying violence of underground hazing. Led by a breakthrough performance by Trevor Jackson, director Gerard McMurray's feature directorial debut brings an emotional honesty to the classic tale of "rites of passage" and the complicated bonds of brotherhood.
