Song to Song — Trailer

Legendary filmmaker Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, The Thin Red Line) continues to be fascinated with intimate moments rather than substance as he once again captures both the malaise and marvels of daily life, this time turning his focus on the Austin, Texas music scene in his latest offering "Song to Song."

Starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, and Natalie Portman, the rock-n-roll drama follows two sets of couples -- a struggling songwriter/musician (Gosling) who falls in love with a young indie rocker (Mara) and a big-shot music producer (Fassbender) who ends up having a romantic fling with a local waitress (Portman), while at the same time keeping his eye on Mara's character.

Like most of Malick's films, "Song to Song" is crammed with A-list cameos, including Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John "Rotten" Lydon, Arcade Fire, as well as Val Kilmer, Benicio Del Toro, and Cate Blanchett.

"Song to Song" will make its world premiere next month as the opening film of this year's SXSW Film Festival. It will then quickly be released in theaters on March 17th. Watch the trailer, above.

In this modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples -- struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Natalie Portman) -- chase success through a rock ā€˜nā€™ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.
