For something as seemingly innocuous as a teen boy looking at himself in the mirror, the new teaser trailer for the indie drama "Beach Rats" effectively gives off an ominous air of mystery and foreboding.

Though it's a tale about a young Brooklyn teen exploring his sexuality and his secret relationships with older men over the course of a fateful summer, "Beach Rats" isn't a typical coming-out movie. Because much of it is filmed as a visually hypnotic and haunting exploration of a teen (played here by British newcomer Harris Dickinson) struggling with his sexual identity.

Filmmaker Eliza Hittman (It Felt Like Love) writes and directs "Beach Rats," for which she received a Directing Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Since then its Park City debut, the film has been generating strong word-of-mouth and reviews.

"Beach Rats" will be released later in the year.
