While playing a helpless wounded Civil War soldier, Colin Farrell unexpectedly drives women wild with rage and jealousy in the first trailer for director Sofia Coppola's sexually charged Gothic thriller "The Beguiled," which also stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning.
The upcoming movie, which is Coppola's first feature effort since 2013's "The Bling Ring," is based on the 1966 novel by Thomas Cullinan, which, by the way, was first adapted into a 1971 Clint Eastwood-starring western thriller of the same name.
Written for the screen by Coppola, the story takes place in 1864 at an all-female southern boarding school, run by a Miss Martha Farnsworth (Kidman). When an injured Union soldier, named John McBurney (Farrell), wanders onto the school's premises, he is quickly taken in by Miss Farnsworth and her girls. While being nursed back to health, Mr. McBurney finds himself caught up in a dangerous game of seduction and manipulation -- where the odds are stacked against him.
Co-starring Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys) and Oona Laurence (Pete's Dragon), "The Beguiled" will be hitting theaters on June 23rd.
The Beguiled, adapted by Sofia Coppola from Thomas Cullinan's novel of the same name, unfolds in a girls' school in the state of Virginia in 1864. As the Civil War rages, The Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies has been sheltered from the outside world -- until the day a wounded Union soldier is discovered nearby and taken in.
