L.A. comic folk-singer Henry Phillips brings his hapless alter-ego to the screen in "Punching Henry," a semi-autobiographical indie dramedy about a traveling troubadour, named Henry Phillips, who after becoming a regular fixture on the L.A. comedy scene is lured by Hollywood executives to produce a television show that would capitalize on his newfound internet fame.

Phillips, who not only stars but also co-wrote the film with director Gregori Viens, is supported by a strong cast that includes his fellow comedian pals, Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro, Doug Stanhope, and Jim Jefferies, as well as Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, Clifton Collins Jr., Michaela Watkins, and Stephanie Allynne.

A quasi-remake/sequel to Phillips and Viens' 2009 ultra-low-budget comedy "Punching the Clown," "Punching Henry" premiered at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival. It's now slated to hit theaters and VOD on February 21st. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
In this hyper-intelligent comedy, a journeyman comedian is lured to L.A. by a TV producer (J.K. Simmons) who wants to make him a reality star. As reality sets in, he must decide whether his legacy will be to tell jokes for a living or become the butt of them. With an all-star cast including Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro, Jim Jefferies, Doug Stanhope, and more, PUNCHING HENRY is a hilarious and heartwarming glimpse behind the curtain at the weird world of comedy.
