Welcome to the dazzling world of synchronized flag spinning, better known as Color Guard, where your guide is legendary musician David Byrne, of "Talking Head" fame.

In the upcoming documentary "Contemporary Color," filmmaking brothers Bill Ross IV and Turner Ross (Western, Tchoupitoulas) chronicle the days leading up to a special concert event at Brooklyn's Barclays Center during which ten highly talented color guard teams perform ten highly elaborated dance routines alongside ten big-name musical acts, spearheaded by former Talking Head frontman -- and apparently, color-guard enthusiast -- David Byrne. Other performers include St. Vincent, Nelly Furtado, Ad-Rock, Devonte Hynes and Zola Jesus.

Filmed in the summer of 2015, "Contemporary Color" premiered at last year's Tribeca Film Festival, where it took home two jury awards for Best Editing and Best Cinematography. The documentary is currently scheduled to hit theaters March 1st.

synopsis:
In the summer of 2015, legendary musician David Byrne staged an event at Brooklyn's Barclays Center to celebrate the creativity of Color Guard: synchronized dance routines involving flags, rifles, and sabers, colloquially known as "the sport of the arts." Byrne recruited performers including the likes of St. Vincent, Nelly Furtado, Devonte Hynes, Zola Jesus, Ad-Rock, tUnE-yArDs, and Ira Glass to collaborate on original pieces with 10 color guard teams from across the US and Canada. The result is CONTEMPORARY COLOR, a bold and irrepressible snapshot of a one-of-a-kind live performance.
