James Franco assembles an impressive lineup of actors (Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, Vincent D'Onofrio, Nat Wolff, Selena Gomez and more) as he once again brings a classic American novel to the big screen.

The multi-hyphenate actor-filmmaker produces, directs, and co-stars in this ambitious adaptation of John Steinbeck's Great Depression-era novel "In Dubious Battle," which was inspired by the Californian fruit workers' strike of 1933.

It tells a story of a young man (Wolff) who, after being recruited by a staunch labor activist (Franco), becomes embroiled in a highly contentious labor strike between migrant apple workers and greedy landowners.

The film, which premiered this past September at the Toronto and Venice Film Festival, also features Sam Shepard, Zach Braff, Scott Haze, Ahna O'Reilly, and Josh Hutcherson.

Adapted for the screen by Matt Rager, "In Dubious Battle" will be hitting theaters February 17th. Watch the film's official theatrical trailer, above.

synopsis:
In the California apple country, nine hundred migratory workers rise up "in dubious battle" against the landowners. The group takes on a life of its own -- stronger than its individual members and more frightening. Led by the doomed Jim Nolan, the strike is founded on his tragic idealism -- on the "courage never to submit or yield." Published in 1936, In Dubious Battle is considered the first major work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Steinbeck.
