A year before he starred in the biggest U.S. box-office movie of all-time, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor John Boyega earned accolades for his impressive turn as a 21-year-old ex-convict/single father trying to stay on the straight and narrow in director Malik Vitthal's Los Angeles-set urban drama "Imperial Dreams," which took home an Audience Award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Despite receiving positive reviews during its festival run, the indie film struggled to find a distribution deal. But thanks to the good people at Netflix, "Imperial Dreams" will finally have a chance to be seen by an audience. The streaming company has released a new trailer (watch it above), and announced an official release date: it will start streaming globally next Friday, on February 3rd.

Co-written by Vitthal and Ismet Prcic, the film -- which its title is a reference to the housing projects in Watts, Los Angeles, called "Imperial Courts" -- co-stars Keke Palmer, Kellita Smith, and Glenn Plummer.
