The National Geographic Channel is a cable network that's primarily known for its science and nature programs. But in April, they'll be getting into the original scripted programming game, launching their first ever series about the extraordinary life of Albert Einstein. And it's being executive produced by a couple of Hollywood heavy-hitters, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, other known as the Oscar-winning team of "A Beautiful Mind" and "Apollo 13."

"Genius" is actually an anthology series with its first ten-episode season focusing on Nobel Prize-winning theoretical physicist Albert Einstein, charting his remarkable life journey from his beginnings as a rising German scientist and lecturer to his days as a wartime refugee fleeing Nazi Germany into America. The series will also delve into Einstein's history with women, including his strained relationships with his two former wives, Serbian physicist Mileva Maric and his first cousin Elsa Einstein.

Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning actor Geoffrey Rush portrays Einstein roughly in his 50s through his 70s, while a young Einstein is being played by South African-English musician/actor Johnny Flynn (Clouds of Sils Maria). Two-time Oscar nominee Emily Watson also stars as Einstein's second wife, Elsa. And newcomer Samantha Colley (from the British series "Victoria") takes on the role of Einstein's first wife, Mileva.

Rounding out the cast are Wolf Hall's Charity Wakefield, Mad Men's Vincent Kartheiser, The Crown's Nicholas Rowe, and Salem's Seth Gabel.

Ron Howard makes his small-screen debut as a director, helming his first pilot episode with "Genius," which is set to broadcast globally on NatGeo this April. Watch a new extended trailer, above.
