Amazon Studios has released the trailer for "Ronja, the Robber's Daughter," the Studio Ghibli-produced animated adventure series, which will be making its US debut this month on the streaming service.

Based on the classic children's fantasy book by celebrated Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, of "Pippi Longstocking" fame, the series centers on a young Scandinavian girl, who is the only child of a medieval chief. While growing up among a tribe of forest bandits, she develops a special friendship with a young boy from a rival clan, causing some strife with her father.

Originally aired in Japan back in late 2014, "Ronja" is told in an epic 26-part season, with "From Up on Poppy Hill" helmer Goro Miyazaki (son of legendary animator and 'Studio Ghibli' co-founder Hayao Miyazaki) directing the majority of the episodes.

"X-Files" actress Gillian Anderson has been brought in to serve as the show's narrator for Amazon's new English dubbed version. The series will stream for Amazon Prime members later this month, beginning Friday, January 27th.

Presented by Studio Ghibli. The daughter of a professional robber, Ronja realizes the complicated nature of her father’s profession when she befriends Birk, the child of a rival tribe. She struggles to balance this friendship with her family relationship but comes to understand, differences can be overcome with the help of love and understanding.
