Mermaids have fascinated us for centuries. But the question is, are these mythical sirens friend or foe? Well, for her feature debut, Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczynska puts a darkly comedic twist on the mermaid myth and then lets it spin out of control in a colorful confection of music and mischief.

Check out the newly-released U.S. trailer for Smoczynska's off-kilter fantasy fable "The Lure," which tells the bizarre story of two flesh-eating Polish mermaid sisters who take human form to pose as sexy nightclub singers as a way to lure in clueless men.

Part horror-comedy, part dreamscape-musical, "The Lure" certainly seems destined for cult status. The film stars Marta Mazurek, Michalina Olszanska, Kinga Preis, Andrzej Konopka, Magdalena Cielecka, and Jakub Gierszal. And it's set to open in New York on February 1st with other cities to follow.

synopsis:
One dark night, at water's edge, a family of musicians encounter aquatic sirens Silver and Golden. After assuring the family that they won't eat them up, the winsome sirens are recruited to join the Figs and Dates band at a neon-lit Warsaw dance club. When Silver becomes romantically entangled with beautiful blonde bassist Mietek, the more cunning Golden, who cannot escape her bloodthirsty nature, worries that her sister's relationship will doom their shared dream of swimming to a new life in America.
