To simply say, New Edition had a complicated relationship with R&B bad boy Bobby Brown might be a bit of an understatement.

Check out a new extended preview for BET's upcoming three-night miniseries "The New Edition Story," which chronicles the rise of the popular '80s R&B boy band who, despite having a number of top-charting hits, faced financial troubles and contract disputes, as well as some internal turmoil involving a certain member who perhaps thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Directed by Chris Robinson (ATL), the three-parter stars Bryshere Gray (Empire), Woody McClain (Autographs), Elijah Kelley (The Wiz Live!), Algee Smith (Let It Shine), Keith Powers (Straight Outta Compton), and Grammy-nominated R&B singer Luke James.

Meanwhile, Michael Rapaport also stars as the group's touring manager Gary Evans, Ant-Man's Wood Harris as Brooke Payne, the local manager who first founded the boys in Boston, and comic actor Faizon Love as record producer Maurice Starr.

"The New Edition Story" premieres Tuesday, January 24 on BET.

Boyz II Men, N'SYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and New Kids On The Block all took their cues from Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny. After 30 years of breaking hearts on the record and from the stage, New Edition finally gets the biopic that their stellar tenure in entertainment so richly deserves. This 3-part miniseries follows the group from their middle school lunchroom to global megastardom -- weathering the highs and lows of controversy, personnel changes, and the ultimate cost of fame.
