Breaking up is hard to do, especially when you suddenly realize that you've fallen back in love with your spouse.

Debra Winger (Terms of Endearment) and Tracy Letts (SHO's Homeland) play a long-time married couple who are having second thoughts about divorcing each other in the new offbeat romantic comedy "The Lovers," from indie filmmaker Azazel Jacobs.

In the film, Winger and Letts are on the verge of breaking up. They even have gone so far as to start secret love affairs with other people -- played here by Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) and Melora Walters (Magnolia). But when it comes time to finally put an end to their dismal marriage, they discover something they never thought would happen again -- they fall madly in love with each other for the second time.

But the thing is, if they are truly meant for each other, how will they break the news to their respective lovers? Breaking up is, indeed, so hard to do.

"The Lovers" is also written by Jacobs, who previously helmed the HBO series "Doll & Em" and the 2011 comedy "Terri" with John C. Reilly. He also wrote and directed the acclaimed 2008 indie dramedy "Momma's Man," which co-starred his real-life father, known New York experimental filmmaker Ken Jacobs.

"The Lovers" is currently scheduled for a May 5th release.
