Matthew McConaughey appears to be tapping into his inner 'Tugg Speedman' (from "Tropic Thunder") to play a crazed bankrupt amateur treasure hunter who strikes it rich, just to lose it all again, in his latest drama "Gold," Check out a new international trailer for the film, above.
Loosely based on a true story, the film follows Kenny Wells (McConaughey), an American prospector who teams up with a geologist (Edgar Ramirez) to embark on an ill-conceived scheme to search and dig for gold in the jungles of Indonesia. Shortly after striking rich by discovering a gold mine worth billions of dollars, the duo find themselves drawing the attention of the Indonesian military, as well as the FBI as to who really is the owner of the found treasure.
Written by TV producers/writers Patrick Massett & John Zinman ("Friday Night Lights," "Blacklist") and directed by Stephen Gaghan ("Syriana"), the film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Kebbell, Corey Stoll, Bruce Greenwood, and Stacy Keach.
"Gold" is scheduled to open in select theaters on Christmas day, December 25th, with a wider release planned for January 27th.
