Oscar-winner Jim Broadbent looks back at his life with some feelings of regret and uncertainty in the trailer for "The Sense of an Ending," which also stars Charlotte Rampling, Emily Mortimer, and a pregnant Michelle Dockery.

Based on the award-winning novel by Julian Barnes, the film concerns a soon-to-be grandfather named Tony Webster (played by Broadbent) who, after being handed down a mysterious diary, is forced to confront the harsh truths of his scandalous past that involved a woman he once loved (played by Rampling -- and played by former "Skins" actress Freya Mavor in flashback sequences).

The cast also includes "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" star Joe Alwyn, "The Crown" actress Harriet Walter, and up-and-comer Billy Howle as the younger version of Broadbent's character.

"The Sense of an Ending" is the English-language debut of acclaimed Indian director Ritesh Batra, of "The Lunchbox." The film is due to hit select theaters March 10, 2017.
