Universal Pictures cranks up its promotional machine for the forthcoming first installment of their proposed Monster Universe as they dropped a brand-new "Inside Look" featurette for "The Mummy," a day after the debut of the film's official trailer.

This new preview offers a couple of new behind-the-scenes glimpses -- including a peek at Tom Cruise's "Prodigium" fight scene with Russell Crowe, who is supposedly playing Dr. Henry Jekyll, of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."

For the time being, Cruise's character, Nick Morton, remains a mystery. Though judging by the newly-released trailer, he could be playing a character that gets resurrected somehow or perhaps he's a person with the indestructible ability to survive deadly plane crashes.

In this modern-day reboot of the classic monster movie franchise, "Star Trek Beyond" actress Sofia Boutella plays the title role of an ancient princess who is awakened from her centuries-long slumber, only to blaze a relentless path of revenge and destruction.

The film, directed by "Star Trek" reboot co-writer Alex Kurtzman, is the first of a potential film series based around Universal's Classic Monsters. Think Marvel Studios, but instead of superheroes, it's The Mummy, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll, the Invisible Men‎, etc.

"The Mummy" also stars Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance, and it's slated for a June 9, 2017 release.

synopsis:
Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella, of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and "Star Trek Beyond") whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
