"Iron Man 3" actor James Badge Dale plays a science researcher who leads an elite special forces team into a deadly battle against an invisible enemy in the newly-released trailer for the new Netflix film "Spectral."

Marking the feature directorial debut of commercial director Nic Mathieu, this military sci-fi thriller, which appears to be a cross between "Edge of Tomorrow" and "Battle Los Angeles," imagines a nightmare scenario in which Europe is overrun by ghost-like alien invaders. They can kill indiscriminately and can strike without much warning. So, in order to gather intel, military forces have been ordered to move further into war-torn areas to get a better look at the enemy in action. And what they find is truly horrifying.

In addition to Badge Dale, the cast also includes Emily Mortimer (HBO's The Newsroom), Bruce Greenwood (The People v. O.J. Simpson), Clayne Crawford (TV's Lethal Weapon), Cory Hardrict (American Sniper), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Ryan Robbins (Warcraft), and Stephen Root (Amazon's The Man in the High Castle).

Weta Workshop and Weta Digital designed and created all the weaponry and the digital effects in the film, which is set to premiere next week on Friday, December 9, only on Netflix.

When an otherworldly force wreaks havoc on a war-torn European city, an engineer teams up with an elite Special Ops unit to stop it.
