Check out the first trailer for "The Ottoman Lieutenant," a new historical war drama that stars Hera Hilmar (Da Vinci's Demons), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), with Josh Hartnett (Penny Dreadful) and Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley.

Set in the days leading to the bloody battle between Ottoman and Russian forces during WWI, the film harkens back to the sweeping romantic epics of the 1960s and tells the ill-fated love story between a volunteer nurse (Hilmar) and a commanding officer for the Ottoman Empire (Huisman). Of course, things get complicated when the nurse becomes the romantic fixation of her supervisor, a conflicted American doctor (Hartnett) who, along with the mission's founder (Kingsley), has a nagging disdain for the Ottoman army.

Directed by veteran filmmaker Joseph Ruben (Dreamscape, The Good Son, Money Train) and written by Jeff Stockwell (Bridge to Terabitha), "The Ottoman Lieutenant" will have an Oscar-qualifying run in December but will open officially in March 2017.

synopsis:
THE OTTOMAN LIEUTENANT is the first movie to explore the eastern front of World War I, and tells the story of a beautiful, strong-willed woman (Hera Hilmar), who, frustrated by ongoing injustice at home, leaves the United States after meeting Jude, an American doctor (Josh Hartnett) who runs a remote medical mission within the Ottoman Empire -- a world both exotic and dangerous, and on the brink of what is about to become the first World War. There, she finds her loyalty to Jude and the mission’s founder, (Ben Kingsley) tested when she falls in love with a lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army (Michiel Huisman). Now, with invading army forces at their doorstep, and the world about to plunge into all-out war, she must decide if she wants to be what other people want her to be, or to be herself.
