Check out the trailer for Lifetime's upcoming remake of the 1988 classic tear-jerker "Beaches," in which Grammy and Tony Award-winning actress/singer Idina Menzel (Frozen, Wicked) and Nia Long (TV's Uncle Buck, Keanu) star as C.C. and Hillary (originally played by Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey), two childhood friends who manage to keep their sisterly bond intact while facing life's biggest challenges together.

Directed by Emmy-nominated helmer Allison Anders (Lifetime's Ring of Fire, Grace of My Heart) and based on the novel by Iris Rainer Dart, the contemporary TV remake will also feature a new rendition of Bette Midler's classic theme song "Wind Beneath My Wings," this time performed by the "wickedly talented" Idina Menzel.

"Beaches" is due to premiere Saturday, January 21, 2017 on Lifetime.

synopsis:
In this contemporary remake, Beaches follows the serendipitous meeting of two young girls on the Venice Boardwalk, who, though worlds apart in lifestyle, embark on unexpected and lifelong friendship. CC (Idina Menzel) is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Los Angeles until she is discovered by a director who gives her her first big shot. Hillary (Nia Long) is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny. Their friendship -- even with its ups and downs -- sustains them for decades.
