It's safe to say that this year's awards season is heating up. And it appears Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are shoe-ins -- if the latest trailer for their new movie "Fences" is any indication.

Many insiders are already predicting Oscar nominations for Denzel and Viola's performances in this forthcoming film adaptation of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play, in which they star as a hard-working married couple (he's a former college baseball star, now garbage man and she plays a devoted wife and mother) struggling to raise a son in the economically depressed part of Pittsburgh during the social turmoils of the 1950s.

The stage-to-movie adaptation, which primarily centers on the tense relationship between an athletically-gifted son (played by The Leftovers' Jovan Adepo) and his jealous, hard-to-please father, is not only directed by Denzel (his third directorial outing, following "The Great Debaters" and "Antwone Fisher"), but both he and Viola are reprising their roles that have already earned them Tony Awards. Could Oscar trophies be next?

Adapted by Wilson, "Fences" co-stars Mykelti Williamson, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, and Saniyya Sydney. And it will be arriving in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25.
