Hold onto your dog-collar, Toto, 'cause we're definitely not in Kansas anymore! Check out the official trailer for NBC's new drama series "Emerald City," which is a modern-day retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic fairytale "The Wizard of Oz," but done in a similar style to "Game of Thrones" and "Narnia."

The NBC series stars "True Detective" actress Adria Arjona as a 20-year-old Dorothy Gale, who is working as a Kansas City police officer when she is swept up by a powerful tornado with her four-legged K9 partner and then magically transported into a witch-and-wizard-filled fantasy realm that appears to be more Westero than wonderful.

The cast also includes Vincent D'Onofrio (Daredevil, Jurassic World) as the Wizard and Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Glinda (the Good Witch). Rounding out the group are Olafur Darri Olafsson, Florence Kasumba, Ana Ularu, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, Stefanie Martini, and Mido Hamada.

Executive produced and written by David Schulner (Do No Harm), the show's entire first ten-episode season is being helmed by visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Fall, The Cell).

"Emerald City" is scheduled to premiere Friday, January 6 on NBC.

synopsis:
In the blink of a tornado's eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and a K9 police dog are swept into a world far removed from our own - a mystical land of competing realms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy.

Starring Vincent D'Onofrio as the guileful Wizard and directed by the visionary Tarsem Singh across three European countries, this is Oz completely reimagined -- a place where familiar characters show up in fresh, unexpected ways, and where an unsuspecting young woman holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands. And as Dorothy navigates this dangerous world and uncovers her true destiny, we'll see there's no place like ... Oz.
