From director Gus Van Sant and Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, the team behind the Harvey Milk biopic "Milk," comes a new epic miniseries that chronicles the history of the L.G.B.T. civil rights movement in America.
Check out the first trailer for "When We Rise," a special seven-part television event featuring an all-star cast that includes Guy Pearce, Emmy-winner Mary-Louise Parker, Rachel Griffiths, Michael K. Williams, activist/comedienne Rosie O'Donnell, veteran TV actor Michael DeLorenzo, Emmy-winner David Hyde Pierce, and Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg.
Written by Black, the decades-spanning ABC drama will depict several major milestones in the gay-rights movement, as told (and inspired) by those who lived it.
Van Sant is directing the two-hour premiere of the eight-hour miniseries, which also stars Broadway actor Austin McKenzie, Fiona Dourif, and newcomers Ivory Aquino and Jonathan Majors.
"When We Rise" is slated to air in February on ABC.
