"X-Men: Apocalypse" star Tye Sheridan gets to live out his violent and homicidal fantasies in the trailer for the revenge thriller "Detour."

Also starring Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Bel Powley (The Diary of a Teenage Girl), and Stephen Moyer (HBO's True Blood), the film centers on a young college student, named Harper (Sheridan), who suspects his stepfather (Moyer) had something to do with his mother's recent car accident, which left her in a terrible coma. While quietly plotting his revenge, Harper randomly strikes up a friendly conversation with a dubious drifter (Cohen) and his stripper girlfriend (Powley). Soon, they try to help Harper tap into his dark side, guiding him toward a destructive path of vengeance and possibly murder.

Written and directed by cult genre director Christopher Smith (Creep, Black Death, Get Santa), "Detour" will be hitting theaters and VOD on January 20.

synopsis:
Harper (Tye Sheridan), a seemingly naive law student, obsesses over the idea that his shifty stepfather was involved in the devastating car crash that left his mother hospitalized and comatose. He drowns his suspicions in whiskey until he finds himself suddenly engrossed in conversation with volatile grifter Johnny (Emory Cohen) and his stripper companion, Cherry (Bel Powley). As daylight breaks and the haziness of promises made becomes clearer, how will Harper handle the repercussions (not to mention the violent duo -- on his doorstep)?
