Actress Lily Collins, daughter of singer Phil Collins, proves she is a chip off the old block as she sings the title track in a new music video/trailer for Warren Beatty's 1950s romantic throwback "Rules Don't Apply."
Said to be loosely inspired by Beatty's early years in Tinseltown, the film casts Collins as an eager young actress who moves to Hollywood after getting signed to Howard Hughes' talent agency. She soon falls in love with one of the eccentric billionaire's chauffeurs, a young aspiring businessman (played by Alden Ehrenreich) who, unfortunately, is already committed to marrying his long-distance girlfriend. Written and directed by Beatty, he also appears in the movie as Howard Hughes.
Featuring an all-star supporting cast that includes Matthew Broderick, Annette Bening, Ed Harris, Candice Bergen, Alec Baldwin, and much more, "Rules Don't Apply" is hitting theaters next week, beginning Wednesday, November 23.
An aspiring young actress (Lily Collins) and her ambitious young driver (Alden Ehrenreich) struggle hopefully with the absurd eccentricities of the wildly unpredictable billionaire (Warren Beatty), who they work for. It's Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his 7th grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes' behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.
