Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon) are proving to be a formidable and prolific filmmaking team as they reunite for the second time this year with "Patriots Day," a tense drama about one of the most frightening events in America's recent history: the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. A newly-released full-length trailer for the film offers a gut-punching look at the chaos and turmoil surrounding that day and the exhaustive, nerve-wracking manhunt that ensued.

Wahlberg produces and leads a strong ensemble cast that includes Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, John Goodman, Michael Beach, J.K. Simmons, Rachel Brosnahan, Christopher O'Shea, Khandi Alexander, Alex Wolff, Jimmy O. Yang, and Melissa Benoist.

Wahlberg is portraying Boston police officer and first responder Tommy Saunders (a composite character) while Monaghan plays his wife. Bacon portrays real-life FBI agent Richard DesLauriers, who led the initial investigation, Goodman is Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, and Beach as Governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick. Meanwhile, Brosnahan and O'Shea take on the roles of Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, local newlyweds who were badly injured but survived the terrorist attack.

"Patriots Day" will have a limited, Oscar-qualifying run on December 21 before expanding everywhere on January 13.

synopsis:
In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant TOMMY SAUNDERS (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent RICHARD DESLAURIERS (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner ED DAVIS (John Goodman), Sergeant JEFFREY PUGLIESE (J.K. Simmons) and nurse CAROL SAUNDERS (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.
