"Beware the Slenderman" is a new HBO documentary that tells the shocking true story of a young 12-year-old Wisconsin girl who, on Saturday, May 31, 2014, was lured into the woods, stabbed 19 times, and left for dead by two of her fellow female classmates. The police investigation would later reveal that the stabbing was done in an effort to prove the existence of a fictional internet-based, boogeyman-like character, known as the Slenderman.

Miraculously, the victim survived the incident after a bicyclist spotted her and called for help. She was hospitalized for six days. Her 12-year-old attackers were eventually arrested and charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Thier trials are expected to begin in March or April 2017.

Directed by Oscar-nominated documentarian Irene Taylor Brodsky, "Beware the Slenderman" premiered to mostly positive reviews at this year's SXSW. The film will premiere on HBO at later date.
