It's been described as a "Harry Potter" for grown-ups ... or Hogwarts: the college years. Now it seems Syfy's adaptation of author Lev Grossman's international best-selling fantasy book series "The Magicians" is trading in the college hijinks for something more dangerously "whimsical."

Check out the newly-released trailer for the forthcoming Season 2 of Syfy's hit show, which finds would-be college sorcerer Quentin Coldwater (played by Jason Ralph) leading his Scooby gang of fellow junior magicians (Hale Appleman, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Summer Bishil, and Arjun Gupta) as they leave the comforts of their magical college campus to explore a hidden and perilous fantasy realm, where they must prevent magic from dying off.

Executive produced by John McNamara (NBC's Aquarius) and Sera Gamble (CW's Supernatural), "The Magicians: Season 2" will start airing on Wednesday, January 25.

synopsis:
Based upon Lev Grossman's best-selling books, The Magicians centers around Brakebills University, a secret institution specializing in magic. There, amidst an unorthodox education of spellcasting, a group of twenty-something friends soon discover that a magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real -- and poses grave danger to humanity.
