Moana — New Featurette: 'The Way To Moana'

added: Mon, Nov 7th '16

Disney's new animated adventure film "Moana" explores a rich and ancient culture that's rarely seen in Hollywood movies. And the people behind the film knew it was imperative to get it right. Check out a newly-released "Moana" featurette that shows how the filmmakers went to great lengths to capture the Polynesian mythology and culture in all of its majestic glory.

The film, starring the voice of action superstar Dwayne Johnson as a charming Polynesian deity, named Maui, who reluctantly partners up with a Polynesian teen princess, Moana (voiced by Hawaiian newcomer Auli'i Cravalho), as they set off to save her island homeland from mythical sea monsters, features original music by Tony Award winner and "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Samoan folk songwriter/singer Opetaia Foa'i.

Also featuring the voices of New Zealand actors Temuera Morrison, Rachel House, and Jemaine Clement, "Moana" is set to sail into theaters later this month, on November 23.

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped -- and no one today knows why.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes "Moana," a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors' unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
